My Royal Borough Moves to Tier 4

My Royal Borough is moving from Tier 3 to Tier 4; effectively a ‘stay at home’ order will be in place from Sunday morning, 20 December.

Read the statement from the Leader of the Council of the Royal Borough following the Prime Minister’s announcement 19 December. From his statement:

"Following the news conference by the Prime Minister today, I am absolutely devastated that the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has moved into tier 4 - effectively a full lockdown. This is devastating news for our community and the impacts it will have on us all.

“I understand the need to protect everyone and we have seen our rates of coronavirus increasing in the borough, but this news, at this time, is a devastating blow to thousands of families who have been looking forward to Christmas and seeing their loved ones again.

“We all need to support each other during this very difficult time while we work through how we can see our loved ones but remain safe and try to stop the spread of the virus.

“It is also a devastating blow for our businesses who have struggled through this year and the council will do all we can to support our businesses through this very difficult period. I am already lobbying Government to ensure additional funding is made available to you.

"If we all work together, we can beat this. Follow the data, safely support local businesses, and stop the spread."

What does this mean for Christmas?

People must stay at home over Christmas and not meet up with other households. One resident can meet up with another one person for a walk, but not a whole household of people.

What does this mean for business?

🛑 Non-essential shops, hairdressers and leisure and entertainment venues will close.

🛑 Households are not allowed to mix.

🛑 Residents must not stay overnight away from home, and cannot travel abroad.

🛑 Those who are deemed clinically extremely vulnerable should not go to work and should limit time outside of their homes.

✅ Residents are encouraged to stay at home.

✅ People who need to travel for education or childcare will be exempt.

✅ Exercise will be unlimited.

✅ One person will be allowed to meet with one other person outside in a public space.

✅ Support bubbles and those meeting for childcare are exempt.
