Barkshire Paws is your dog accessories boutique, all handcrafted for your four-legged friends.
We love their story. Catie Lockhart redirected their business from dog walking to accessory makers due to the pandemic. They were unable to do their regular daily jobs in the first lockdown and then even when we could once dog walking was classified as welfare cases, they were running at significantly reduced numbers.
The creativity and feeling of accomplishment that came from making the different accessories (some learning a new skill) definitely helped her mental health by engaging her mind in something positive.
From the start of their accessories business, they have thrived online, as everyone was at home and shops weren't open. We have had to change suppliers a couple of times and taken risks on buying fabric without being able to see those choices in person. But many risks have paid off.
When asked if they could do anything differently, Catie says she would have started her accessories business many years ago. “Being creative has been great for my soul,” says Catie.
She continues:
“I've learnt people do really love supporting local business and knowing the maker. I've learnt many different things about myself, hidden talents that I hadn't used for many years. Support from the local community and other small businesses has been and continues to be amazing.”
Barkshire Paws is also selling their beautiful, hand made dog accessories at the brand-new Craft Coop in Windsor yards.
We are so inspired by Catie’s story. When asked if she could share some additional advice or encouragement to others, she said:
“Take the risk, and trust in your heart that what makes you happy is worth the effort everyday.”
