Insta Itinerary

My Royal Borough, in partnership with Instagrammers Windsor and Eton, Windsor Tourist Guides and Visit Windsor, hosted its first ever safe and socially distanced instameet on October 3rd.

The goal of our instameet was to share the best of My Royal Borough’s shop local, tourism and hidden gems with our community on a walking tour while also viewing our borough through our visitors’ camera lenses. This was the socially distanced route our Instagrammers took.

We are happy to announce our very first instameet will be in partnership with @IgersWindsorAndEton, @VisitWindsorUK, @windsor_tourist_guides_ltd and @MyRoyalBorough.

⚠️ Due to the updated government guidance of keeping groups to no more than 6 people, we will be holding two separate groups of no more than six people each.

🎯 It is very important that we keep to these guidelines and appreciate everyone’s kind understanding in this. @IgersWindsorAndEton are maintaining our sign up lists and will ensure our groups keep to the maximum number.

We will all be socially distancing, mask wearing and picture snapping!

πŸ—ΊRoute:

Windsor is a historic market town in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead in Berkshire, England. It is widely known as the site of Windsor Castle, one of the official residences of the Queen.

πŸ—Ί Our #instameet has a #ScavengerHunt theme and we are looking to capture creative, quirky photos of #HiddenWindsorandEton. Join us as we explore the unusual, the quirky, the bold and beautiful #MyRoyalBorough. We want to capture photos that feature Windsor and Eton’s local shops in a different light, cultural icons and history in a new way, and natural beauty differently. We want to see Windsor from a different perspective - yours!

Our programme has been planned by the brilliant @windsor_tourist_guides_ltd and sponsored by @MyRoyalBorough and @VisitWindsorUK- do give them a follow on Facebook, Twitter and IG - and it is as follows:

β€’ From our meeting point of the Long Walk, a perfect spot for taking deer and people watching, we will walk to the end of Park Street for Irish Guards and post boxes. As we walk along the High Street, we will come up to Guildhall Island, for the @windsorguildhall. One of the most iconic buildings in Windsor, the Guildhall has been the setting for charm, elegance and grandeur for over 300 years.  We will also see the Crooked House, the cobbled streets of Market Street, Church Lane and Church street to Henry VIII gate.

β€’ Then we will head down Castle Hill...

β€’ Windsor is famous for its royal connections...Here you can take photos of the statue of Queen Victoria, the flag flying at the top of the Round Tower and the 800 year old walls of Windsor Castle.

β€’ We then will head on over to #PeascodStreet...why not take a photo of some unusual and historical shop fronts (you’ll need to look up!).

β€’ As we weave through Acre Passage, past independent and very popular local restaurant Sebastians,  we will walk along Goswell Hill to the Windsor Royal Station shopping centre for shops and station architecture.

β€’ In a time of a pandemic, our #local shops and businesses have come through with flying colours. How can we show them some love?

β€’ There will be plenty of opportunities to stop for refreshments along the way as we wander through our beautiful high street.

β€’ We will then head up under Jubilee Arch to Thames Street for more shops and views of the Castle.

β€’ Then heading left down Thames Street and through Boots Passage, we will walk down the steps for Goswells for brilliant autumn trees and the Jubilee Fountain.

β€’ We will cross over and turn right onto Goswell Road for a beautiful view into Alexandra Gardens and then along to the river down to the Tow Path for pleasure boats and meander to see the Queen’s swans (are you sure they are not geese?) πŸ€—

β€’ As we continue to mind our social distancing, we will head up onto Windsor Bridge for gorgeous river views and then across the bridge for one of England’s oldest High Streets, Eton High Street, to find some quirky places and then to Eton College, one of the most famous public schools in the country. After a stroll around for Burning Bush and down Common Lane, see who is first to spot an Anthony Gormley statue in a rather strange place. At the end of Eton High Street, there are lovely Eton High Street shop storefronts and then Eton College buildings to the end of the high street.

β€’ As we head back up Common Lane, right onto the High Street and right at traffic lights onto Keate’s Lane, up to the corner of South Meadow Lane - take in the school buildings and the brilliant Gold Olympic Phone Box turned library book share.

β€’ We will continue along South Meadow Lane and turn left onto the playing field and straight across the middle, which conveniently, is a public footpath. This brings us to Meadow Lane carpark. We will turn right out of the carpark and onto the Brocas in Eton, where there is a dramatic backdrop, offering long vistas and a view of #WindsorCastle.

β€’ Out of the Brocas, we will head onto Brocas Street, and then right onto Windsor Bridge, for brilliant castle views, the millennium sculpture with its viewing eye.

β€’ As we cross the bridge, we will take a left onto Datchet Road, cross at the crossing for the George V fountain and to finish, we will walk along Thames Street, ending at Windsor Royal Station, providing a number of interesting photographic opportunities.
