A virtual business briefing session was held on Wednesday 4 January 2023. A recording of the meeting is available here
All councils across the country are legally bound to produce a balanced budget before the start of the financial year, setting out their 12-month plan for how they’ll fund their public services, where they’ll spend the money, and where efficiencies can be made. Some of the services in a council’s budget are legal requirements, and others are discretionary.
The council’s draft budget proposals have been produced after reviewing the Royal Borough’s needs, its financial position, and the estimated central government settlement we’ll receive. It also lays out the Royal Borough’s long-term finances, service costs, investments, capital projects, changes to government policy, and Council Tax.
The council is encouraging its residents, communities, and businesses to share their views on the draft budget proposals.
Cabinet agreed these proposals on Thursday 1 December and the final budget will be debated at Full Council in February 2023 with public feedback helping to inform these discussions. Please note, this consultation covers decisions the council are taking about how to allocate the totality of our budget. Where there are changes to specific services or organisational arrangements, the council will undertake additional consultation.
