New digital business support hub launched to support shopping locally

Maidenhead Town Centre

Maidenhead Town Centre

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is dedicated to supporting all sectors of the local economy throughout each phase of the borough’s reopening and recovery, which is why the council is implementing the following omni-channel digital approach to its Shop Local, Safe Shops campaign.

As the government allows high street shops and businesses to re-open, the council’s Shop Local, Support Local programme will continue to welcome local residents and visitors to enjoy all that the borough has to offer. My Royal Borough was created to empower residents, businesses, and our partners with a sense of community, safety and confidence as we reopen, revisit and rediscover our local high streets, historical landmarks, and public spaces.

The My Royal Borough business hub provides helpful resources to help the community support the local economy whilst staying safe. One example of our work is last month’s promotion of local businesses throughout the government’s Eat Out to Help Out scheme, which encouraged people to dine out Mondays to Wednesdays in August.

My Royal Borough businesses and tourism partners have been agile in their response to government guidance. Our business community, historic and cultural spaces, natural beauty, and local people are what sets the borough apart and what also brings the community together.

We are also reminding our community, when they are out supporting their favourite local shops, to remember these top ten pointers that will help keep everyone safe:

  1. Maintain social distancing at all times.

  2. Remain kind and considerate.

  3. Raise issues thoughtfully with a team member, everyone is adjusting to the new environment.

  4. Wash your hands regularly.

  5. Don’t touch your face.

  6. Wear a face covering/face mask in all shops and if using public transport or a taxi.

  7. Support the NHS Test and Trace scheme, if asked.

  8. Go digital and pay by card.

  9. Avoid shopping or traveling at peak times.

  10. When in doubt, follow government guidance at www.gov.uk/coronavirus

UK high streets must compete with online giants for customer attention, however our high streets and visitor economy will disappear without your support. Our team is working hard to share what makes our royal borough so special across Twitter, Facebook and Instagram at @MyRoyalBorough. We hope you and your customers rediscover what you’ve been missing - and some hidden treasures, too. Tag us in your promotions, events, photos and we will share your content on our feeds.

We’d love to hear your comments. Drop us a line in the comments below or send us an email at Business@rbwm.gov.uk

*The works being undertaken by the council are funded by the Government’s Reopening High Streets Safely Fund – a project supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
